Understanding Hemorrhoids

Welcome to my blog, where we will address a topic, although it often remains silent, it affects many people at some point in their lives: the hemorrhoids.

As a specialist in colorectal surgery, my goal is to provide valuable information about this common condition that can cause discomfort and concerns.

What is this disease of hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectal area or anal. Often, they occur due to excessive pressure in these veins, which may be due to strain during bowel movements, pregnancy or obesity. They can be classified into internal or external, depending on your location.

What are the symptoms of hemorrhoids?

The common symptoms of hemorrhoids include itching, pain and bleeding during bowel movements. Internal hemorrhoids can cause bright red blood in the stool, while the external ones can generate painful lumps around the anus.

Prevention hemorrhoids

Prevention is key. Maintain a diet rich in fiber, drink enough water and avoid constipation are all important measures. It is also crucial not to make excessive strain during bowel movements.

Is there a treatment for hemorrhoids?

Yes, the treatment varies according to the severity of the hemorrhoids. For mild cases, changes in diet and lifestyle can help. For more severe cases, there are medical options, such as creams, suppositories and non-surgical procedures such as ligation with rubber band. In extreme cases, surgery may be necessary.

What to do in case of suffering from the hemorrhoids?

If you experience symptoms of hemorrhoids, the first thing you should do is to consult a specialist in colorectal surgery as I do. A proper assessment will determine the necessary treatment. Avoid self-medication and treatments at home without medical supervision.
